There are a few grab-bags of beer going out soon, and I'm always interested to hear what people think. Both good and bad! I've had a few verbal updates, some emails and the odd picture of somebody enjoying a beer (well, I hope that's what they were implying!) but it would be handy for me to keep everything in one spot. So what I'll do is every time I distribute a new batch I'll add it as a comment to this post. If you have any opinions on it then please reply to that comment, which should hopefully keep everything reasonaby ordered.
And don't be afraid to say negative things! Some of my recent brews are a little out there, and with the varied tastebuds around I'd be suprised if everyone likes everything that I make. I won't be offended, even if you try to sneakily pour a sage ale away behind a tree and get busted because of the smell! :)

Ginger Slapper - Ginger beer with a bit of a kick, although that may have muted over time. Perfect for a hot Christmas day.
ReplyDeleteI like it. Good to see the chili has settled down and now enhances the overall flavour instead of being a burn in my throat.
DeleteRack Sheep - An attempt at a Black Sheep clone, didn’t really work out that way but it’s a tasty, dark & malty brew all the same.
ReplyDeleteAmazing. That is all I have to say.
DeleteOaked IPA - The intention was an IPA with a barrel aged flavour. I think in some ways the oak has counteracted the hops, but it’s an English style bitter. Sessionable flavour but 6% +, so be careful!
ReplyDeleteLovely. Enjoyed this, but not as much as the Rack Sheep. I don't think the oak cubes are necessary or do what they're supposed to.
DeleteYarrow Beer - One of my more experimental brews. No hops – instead it uses yarrow and sweet orange as flavouring agents. It’s sharp and tangy, and refreshing in an ‘in your face’ kind of way.
ReplyDeleteThis one was volcano of head when I opened the bottle. Got some in a glass. A bit too 'in your face for me'.
DeleteThis does seem to be particularly active, although the ones I've tried tend to gush heavily at first and then not foam as much. Will look back at my notes and see if I under-fermented, leaving too much sugar in the bottle.
DeleteAfter I managed to tame the colossal frothing, by pouring into 3 glasses very slowly (thanks for the tip Mike), it was not that tasty. Didn't like the tang. Didn't taste much like beer should taste. Just tasted similar to those lime millers but a lot more sour. Maybe less orange. More Yarrow ? Needs something else to give it body.
DeleteHard Lemonade - It’s light, cidery and faintly lemon-ish but very sharp. When it’s cold it should be refreshing with a few slices of lemon. Warning - “Hard” means alcoholic, 6%ish in fact, so be careful!
ReplyDeleteLiked this a lot. Nice colour, very refreshing. It went down in a couple of minutes (I was thirsty). The only thing I can add is it tasted more like a lemon flavoured wheat beer and less like lemonade.
DeleteMy problem is preconceived ideas of Hard Lemonade. I think alcopops, full of sugarey tastes. This isn't like that at all and I love it. Sharp, bitey and refreshing. I wonder how it would go with Gin in a cocktail. Two thumbs up.
DeleteGordy
Imperial Stout - A 6 month aged, 11% stout that requires respect and careful handling! Please do not drive after drinking this. Just enjoy after dinner, or maybe even over ice-cream?
ReplyDeleteAn Afogato with stout instead of espresso, worth trying. Gordy
DeleteCleaning up my Soma this afternoon, while listening to the cricket, I thought I would try another of your beers. Wow, the stout is the winner, just brilliant, lots of flavour with a back taste of bitter. I would buy this.
DeleteGordy
Yep, lots of flavour. Took me a couple of goes to finish the bottle though. The back taste for me is radish.
DeleteInteresting - I need to crack another botle to see if I can spot that!
DeleteI'm in love. That sweet sweet bitterness.
DeleteBeetroot IPA - I made this as a joke but at bottling it was sweet, hoppy and remarkably tasty. I reckon that once it’s fizzed up a bit it will be another refreshing summer drink. Serve in a clear glass for true impact. Oh, and it’s probably around 8%...
ReplyDeleteKimchi Beer - This is Gordy’s fault. Try it with friends for the humour of it, then tip it away. Although it is vaguely possible that anyone with a taste for sour lambic-style beers could enjoy it. Vaguely.
